Meet Ms. Babitha, a single mother to a 15-year-old little girl. She works as a house help to educate her daughter studying in the 10th grade. After work, Babitha visits the Pratishtha skills training center of ReachingHand, where she has recently enrolled herself in a course to learn how to stitch.
Babitha hopes that through this free stitching training provided by Reaching Hand, she will be able to bring in additional income to help pay for her daughter’s #HigherEducation. This gives her the freedom to work from home while looking out for the safety of her young daughter.
“I’m afraid to leave her (daughter) alone at home and go to work in the evenings. She’s a young girl; I have to make sure she is safe.”
Upon completing the stitching course, Reaching Hand gifts each woman a brand new sewing machine to help them get started. We also help train women like Babitha to stitch reusable cloth bags bought by grocery stores and supermarkets, allowing them to earn (per bag stitched) in proportion to the time and effort they put in.
