Annie Sharon Lloyd | BBA LLB at Kristu Jayanti College of Law, Bangalore.

My college comes under the Karnataka State Law University which requires the students to do a mandatory internship during our semester break.

Hence the reason I came across Reaching Hand while looking for an NGO which works with underprivileged women and children to do my internship in. From the very beginning when I “reached out” to ask about the internship till the time at the end of my internship the people at the NGO have all been very responsive and patient with me, guiding me gently and correcting me kindly if I made a mistake.

Working here I have learnt so much not only in the tasks that were assigned to me but also in my day-to-day life and it has had a positive influence in my life.

It enabled me to better understand the different problems that the people who come under the care of Reaching Hand face. They have established a school for the underprivileged children and children from broken homes who have had to go through so much mentally and physically but now are in a better environment which gives them a hope of a brighter future. They also have a foster home which takes in children who are abandoned or have been in an abusive environment to help them cope with their past and deal with their traumas. This place acts as their home which nurtures and helps them to grow and be better individuals. Their reach also extends to the underprivileged women to help them become financially independent by teaching them different skills which can help them earn a livelihood. It just goes on to show that not all problems can be solved but at the very least we’re supposed to do our best to help them.

I’m very grateful to have had the opportunity of working in Reaching Hand for an amazing short period of time and will continue to work here as a volunteer in the future.
