What has Twinkl Done in the field of Education Philanthropy?
Twinkl regularly does its bit in the way it knows best – helping teachers and students. During the devastating Covid wave in India, which struck around the same time as schools were preparing for final examinations, Twinkl made all 7 lakhs+ resources completely freely available to all residents of India. Wherever there is a calamity, Twinkl steps in, as currently, all its resources are free in Ukraine, with special resources being created for refugees from all over the world in multiple languages to help them integrate better. Under its Twinkl Hive arm, Twinkl takes budding startups in the field of children and education and helps them grow into a viable business. It also regularly partners up with thousands of charities, including World Wildlife Fund, Children in Need, Mind, etc. For his services in the education and technology sector during the pandemic, Twinkl’s founder Jon Seaton was given the title of MBE by the Queen of England.
What is twinkl’s story?
Founded in 2010, in Sheffield, by husband-and-wife Jonathan and Susie Seaton, Twinkl’s mission is ‘to help those who teach’. The company provides high quality, online learning materials and services, which are all teacher-created and checked. Today, Twinkl offers over 865,000 resources, with over 130,000 resources being freely available on the website to everyone. On the website you can find everything from schemes of work and assessments to augmented reality games and apps and much more. The platform is used by schools and educators in over 200 countries and regions, including primary and secondary school teachers, nursery workers, and parents. Altogether, there are over one million active subscribers all over the world.
Twinkl has over 1,400 team members based in its two Sheffield offices and remotely around the globe. They all work together to make sure that over 13,000 new resources are created and uploaded each month, to support educators and their needs.
How is Twinkl Set to Help with the New Indian Curriculum?
As it’s widely known, the Government of India set out the National Education Policy (NEP) in 2020. This is a major overhaul of the current education system, with a new emphasis on an education system that is in line with the international method of teaching.
Twinkl is a pioneer in the field of online educational resources and has been creating these resources in the new format (as seen in the picture above) of primary, middle, and secondary, for more than a decade. We’ve also started creating dedicated vernacular language resources that are NEP friendly in a bid to help all schools in India transition to the new model smoothly.
As the new academic term starts this week across India, it is hoped that smart education, through online learning, is embraced as the way forward to make education more inclusive and accessible to all.
