Tanu was six years old when he was welcomed into New Home in February of 2014. In those first six years of life, he already experienced more trauma than some do in a lifetime. He had suffered a great deal when his mother was electrocuted by her second husband, all while she was holding 4-year-old Tanu in her arms. His mother died on the spot, while Tanu suffered 40% burns on his body. His left leg was self-amputated by the time he was admitted to the Hospital, His right leg was left with a 45-degree twist. The husband abandoned Tanu and his elder brother. With no family able to take care of them, his elder brother landed in a boy’s home in Mangalore while Tanu spent two years at Mangalore’s Wenlock Hospital.
When Tanu was ready for discharge, Reaching Hand was able to take both boys under our care. Since then, we have been able to provide the financial means for 4 major surgeries on Tanu’s legs and follow-up rehabilitation for correct growth and healing. Tanu is an unbelievably strong boy whose cheerful smile and courageous heart inspire everyone who meets him. He is now studying in 9th grade at the LIA School, on our campus. Tanu has shown many talents in the arts, including singing and drawing, and has a natural ease in math’s and computers. We look forward to his continued growth and success in the years ahead, and we are grateful for the opportunity to give him a better future than he ever would have been able to have
